Electric Vehicle chargers can be categorized into two main types: AC chargers and DC chargers.

AC Chargers (Slow or Medium Charging):
These chargers fall under modes 1 to 3 as defined by the EMSD COP classification. The role of the external AC charger is to supply AC power, but it is the onboard charger within the electric vehicle itself that converts the AC power to DC. This DC power is then delivered to the car's battery for storage.

DC Chargers (Fast Charging):
DC chargers are classified as mode 4 in the EMSD COP system. Known as off-board chargers, they have a built-in converter that transforms AC power from the grid into DC power. This DC electricity is directly fed into the vehicle’s battery, bypassing the need for an onboard converter.
